What is a Home Inspection?

Simply put, a home inspection is a limited, non-invasive examination of the condition of a home and its components. A complete inspection includes a visual examination of the building from top to bottom. The inspector evaluates and reports on the condition of the structure, roof, foundation, drainage, plumbing, heating system, central air-conditioning system, visible insulation, walls, windows, and doors.

Buying a home is typically the biggest investment you will ever make, so it’s important to get a home inspection because the inspector should be able to discover and document defects that may or may not be obvious to you as a prospective buyer.  Such defects can range from simple replacements or repairs, to severe damage or safety and health concerns. Additionally, most mortgage companies require a home inspection on a property before approving the home loan. InterNACHI has a great article on the Top 10 Reasons to Get a Home Inspection.
